De Stijl 2019
De Stijl's english translation is: the style, pronunced "De Stairl". De Stijl is considered abstract and uses visual reduction, asymmetric shapes and the original artworks always came unframed as they were (considered by the artist) an extension of our world. De Stijl was an an avant-garde dutch art movement created in 1917, later called neoplasticism. The Style's body of work was largely created by Piet Mondrian (Artist), Theo van Doesburg (Artist) & Gerrit Rietveld (Designer & Architect) et al. De Stijl was a movement which influenced art, design and architecture. De Stijl's creative aesthetic is based upon straight lines, squares, rectangles and primary colours. Basic geometric shapes were used commonly. It's proponents believed much of the physical world was overly complex and deceptive. The artists and designers sought to simplify the (complex) world to its most basic forms and colours (through art & design) that would represent the true nature of it.
